Help us campaign today for a better tomorrow!

Help us campaign today for a better tomorrow!
Being a school board member, I intend to listen to and serve our community and the families first. I am here to advocate for and implement what Medical Lake parents want to see in our schools. Many parents don’t have time to get involved, but they do want certain issues, programs and policies implemented and then be enforced. I will listen to all sides and consider and respect all opinions and ideas; everyone has a voice. In the end, I’m here to support the parents of Medical Lake and the wants and needs of the community.
I, Michael Gerry, am running for Medical Lake school board because I want to be the eyes, ears and voice for the parents of our AMAZING community.
Please VOTE for Mike Gerry on November 7th

Mike has been a resident of Medical Lake for about 20yrs. In 2003 Mike moved to Medical Lake while stationed at Fairchild AFB and from the first time he and his wife Angela drove through the center of town they fell in love with it. They both knew right away this was the place they wanted to plant roots and raise their family. During the last 20 yrs, Mike has served in the Air Force, started a small business of 16 yrs, volunteered as a firefighter in Medical Lake, currently coaches high school lacrosse for the last 10 yrs and has owned 3 homes and moved 3 times in the town.
Mike has been married for 24yrs (Jan 23, 1999) and has 4 beautiful girls: Kayla 23, Lauryn 20, Brooklyn 17, Gwyneth 14 and one grandson Ryker 2 1/2 yrs and one more due in December; all who grew up in / and are currently in the Medical Lake school system.
Mike’s “Hometown” is Westport CT where graduated high school and moved on to college in Colorado for two years. As luck would have it, he found himself in Banner Elk NC one Summer visiting a few college friends not knowing there would be a big change in his path of life. During this time, he became a scholarship athlete to play lacrosse at Lees McRae College and become the team’s Captain, he also found the love of his life (Angela Gerry) and was introduced to the Air Force.
Soon after meeting his wife, Angela entered the military in 1999. This is where Mike really learned more about the opportunities of the Air Force. Once Angela separated from service it was Mikes turn to join. He entered the Air Force at 28yr old and served 8 yrs as a SERE Specialist. Joining the military opened many doors and allowed Mike to further his path of growth to where he is today. While serving he started a small gym business in Medical Lake (2006, CrossFit Spokane). It grew quickly and had to move to Spokane and eventually sold it in Oct 2022.
Mike currently has his dream job working at the SERE school as a gov. contractor training, teaching and mentoring potential / future instructors for the (Survival) SERE Specialist for the Air Force. His job is to mentor and guide the “hopefuls” as well as prepare them mentally and physically, so they have a better chance of not “Washing Out” and eventually graduating from the program.
Mike is well suited for the position. His life experience, 20 yr history in the Medical Lake community and his passion to serve and help others makes him an ideal person to be a school board member.

1. Do you support the state mandated comprehensive sexual health education? Why or why not?
I believe schools should focus on Reading, Writing, Math, Accurate Science & Accurate History. I think the parents / voters should decide in their local communities what would best serve the students of that community in regards to what is deemed appropriate for students by the voters & parents.
2. Do you support the implementation of social-emotional learning? Why or why not?
I believe schools should provide a safe place for any student to feel safe and comfortable in the learning environment. I believe Social Emotional Learning comes through living life and the interactions w/ the people in our everyday world. When students are taught and shown respect, work ethic, integrity, caring, and reward for these (positive) “Social Emotional Learning” will happen.
3. If faced with another pandemic situation in which the state mandated vaccines for school workers, how would you vote and why?
100% No. If we had a vaccine that actually protected people from a “pandemic” then it wouldn’t matter if someone wanted to take it or not. The person taking the ”vaccine” would be protected.
4. Banning of books
100% No. However, age-appropriate books are a must. Asking for inappropriate books in school libraries to be removed or not be present is not “Banning Books” its being responsible and protecting our kids.
5. Transgender youth sharing bathroom
I believe these confused kids should be protected, but not encouraged to be something they are not. They should use the restroom of their biological sex or use an individual restroom. With that said, forcing other students to be placed in an uncomfortable situation because of one misguided student is not fair or appropriate. There or many individual restrooms that these students can use in the schools.
6. Parents rights to be informed
I believe the parent has the ultimate say in what happens with their child. The schools work for the parents / students and the parents have a certain level of trust that the teachers and school is doing the best for them. I think the schools have a responsibility to inform parents of student issues and situations. I think parents should be informed if there is a questionable curriculum, lesson or topic of instruction being taught. Teachers / schools should not withhold information or lie to parents about their child.
